Several families reached settlements with Mavis Discount Tire over the fatal Schoharie limo crash that occurred in 2018, court documents showed (details are confidential). Mavis’ appeal, requesting to be dropped from civil lawsuits, was denied in April by the NY State Supreme Court Appellate Division.
The initial civil lawsuits allege the limo passed inspections by Mavis, despite being clearly unsafe – and that the company botched brake repairs in 2016 and 2018. Limo operator, Nauman Hussain was convicted of 20 counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in May. He faces between 5 and 15 years in prison.
