A recent study revealed that New York is the safest state in the US for after-dark partygoers, scoring 91/100 on the index. New Jersey ranked second, scoring 80/100. In contrast, Tennessee is the most dangerous state for residents going out to clubs and bars, with a score of just 38/100 on the index.
In the study, Criminal Defense Firm Suzuki Law Offices used data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Crime Data Explorer and World Population Review to assign each state a score out of 100. The categories examined were the number of police officers per 100,000 residents, the infrequency of victim-related crime (like purse snatching or harm), and the infrequency of society-related crime, which includes crimes such as drunk driving or drug abuse. A weighting was assigned to each factor to reflect its importance within the analysis. Once these weightings were assigned, the total score for the factors were calculated, producing an overall index score out of 100 for each entry, upon which the final ranking is based.
Apart from boasting the lowest frequency of both victim and society-related crimes, New York also had the third highest number of police officers per 100,000 residents. New Jersey, which ranked #2, also has the eighth-highest density of police officers, with 221 officers per 100,000 residents.
