A Long Island Rail Road train crashed into a taxi, killing the driver and seriously injuring his passenger in Suffolk County on July 30 at about 12:45pm, officials said. Daniel Seagren, 49, reportedly stopped his vehicle on the tracks in Manorville, after driving through crossing gates that were down, warning of an oncoming train.
Moments later, a LIRR train barreled into Seagren’s car. He was rushed to Peconic Bay Hospital but could not be saved. The passenger was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital in serious but stable condition, according to police. Around 50 passengers were on the train – which was traveling eastbound – when it crashed near Yaphank Station. None of the train passengers were injured, MTA police said.
