Each year, City & State celebrates advocates, advisers and service providers from the nonprofit sector, who “play an integral role in American society, providing care for the most vulnerable individuals and advocating for policy changes that improve people’s lives.” This year, Ira Goldstein, Executive Director of The Black Car Fund made the list.
According to City & State, who honored these leaders on May 22 in Manhattan, “The 2024 Nonprofit Trailblazers list recognizes a diverse group of visionary leaders who are carrying out this critical work at mission-driven nonprofit organizations across New York.”
NYC’s Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives Ana Almanzar and Department of Social Services Commissioner Molly Wasow Park were keynote speakers.
“The Black Car Fund is in its 25th year of providing workers’ compensation benefits to a population of drivers who would not otherwise have these benefits,” City & State noted. “During the course of his tenure as the nonprofit organization’s executive director, Ira Goldstein has expanded the benefits offered to drivers to include nonwork accident disability insurance, personal accident insurance, a critical illness benefit, vision coverage, comprehensive dental insurance, 24/7 telemedicine coverage and more. This suite of benefits has transformed The Black Car Fund into a national model for providing portable benefits to independent contractors.”
