On April 19, Matthew Daus, Founder and Chair of the Transportation Practice Group at Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf, LLP, led a panel on “Operationalizing Equity in Transportation Agencies” at the NYC Department of Transportation’s Equity in Motion Summit. The event convened transportation and urban planning leaders from around the world. Attendees shared best practices, made connections, and developed strategies to deliver transportation services more fairly.

The panel highlighted the need for goal-driven change, including controlling how funding is disbursed through Women Business Enterprises and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise goals.

“We must invest in communities through funding and workforce development, and bringing those communities to the table when it comes to workforce and business development,” Daus said. “Centering equity in transportation must include reflecting on our own staffing and contracting practices so that our institutions reflect our diverse identities.”
