New research revealed that September is the month with the highest number of people killed or injured in vehicle crashes in New York State. The research, from personal injury lawyers Bader-Scott, analyzed five years’ worth of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and stressed the importance of staying aware and always driving with caution in New York.
According to data collected between 2017 and 2021, 886 people were reported to be injured or killed in fatal crashes in the month of Sept. This is 32% higher than the monthly average of 666 fatalities and injuries resulting from deadly crashes.
August followed closely behind September, with 824 people killed or injured in fatal crashes out of New York’s total of 7,997 injuries and fatalities over the five-year period. July ranked third, with 819 people killed or injured in fatal accidents. Then came June, with 737 people killed or injured in fatal collisions. October rounded out the top five months, with 725 cases of people killed or injured in New York.
“While these top months for accidents serve as daunting reminders, they also present opportunities for proactive measures,” noted Seth Bader, spokesperson for Bader Scott. “By prioritizing staying informed about road conditions and promoting awareness, we can collectively work towards reducing accidents and safeguarding lives. Remembering to buckle up, obey traffic laws, and stay focused on the road can make a significant difference in preventing accidents and ultimately saving lives.”
