A trio of teenagers who attacked a retired NYPD lieutenant on the Upper East Side were brought to authorities by their parents after cops released surveillance photos of the crime in April. The teens, two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old, were brought to the 19th Precinct station house by their families, a police source said. The teens were all charged with second degree gang assault and second degree assault.
The trio attacked the 65-year-old retiree around 8:00pm, after he tried to stop them from assaulting a cabbie at Park Ave. and East 84th Street, police said. The victim was struck with a backpack and punched in the face, sending him falling to the ground, sources said. He suffered minor injuries to his face and knee but refused medical attention at the scene.
“They were looking for trouble harassing everyone they saw,” said the victim, who did not want to be identified. “When they started to bother the cab driver, I went over and told them to leave him alone. That’s when one coward hit me from behind with a backpack.”
