Electric vehicle (EV) fast charging stations are coming to major interstates across New York State, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced in Sept. The initiative is being funded by a $21 million federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure grant.

Specific requirements for each charging station include the ability to charge at least four vehicles simultaneously, they must be located within one mile of an exit, and each station must be available for use 24/7. Although there are currently some existing sites, the program will focus on closing the gaps between those and other planned stations. They will focus on areas that offer restrooms and/or food, as well as multiple types of charging connectors (CCS and NACS).
