New York City app workers placed white flowers by the photos of fallen co-workers at the Second Annual Memorial for App Workers event on May 10 at NYC’s Union Square. The memorial was hosted by the Justice for App Workers coalition, which is comprised of rideshare and delivery workers. The association is seeking improved safety measures and greater accountability from tech companies, and demanding reforms, like a ban on fake names, functioning panic buttons in vehicles, dash cameras, and harsher punishments for violence against drivers.

The memorial acknowledged the deaths of YiJie Ye, Christian Castelan, Be Tran, Tiburcio Castillo, Humberto Manuel Francis-Hernandez, Manoj Thapa, Daniel Vidal, Eduardo Valencia, Luciano Morales Feliciano, and Victoriano Angeles… all drivers and delivery workers that were lost over the past year.

Participating groups included NYC Rideshare Club, UTANY, United Delivery Workers Association, International Alliance of Delivery Workers, Independent Drivers Guild, Long Island Uber and Lyft Network, Black Car Mafia and UzBER.
