A driver accused of crashing into a yellow cab in Midtown at nearly 100 mph has been indicted on criminal charges, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office announced in March. Hamza Salman, 28, was charged with assault, reckless endangerment and reckless driving after the Fifth Avenue crash on Oct. 30 left a cab driver severely injured, said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Prosecutors contend Salman blew his white 2018 BMW M5 through two red lights at East 45th and 44th streets at about 99 mph, according to officials. Salman then slammed into the yellow cab driven by Golam Uddin, 51, about 4:00am. The crash sent the taxi flying a full block south to East 43rd Street, where it finally stopped.
Uddin suffered critical injuries that include broken ribs, a broken collar bone and a broken scapula that have since required multiple surgeries, officials said.
