Advocates are renewing their calls for a ban on horse-drawn carriages in New York City after a collision between two of the carriages in Central Park sent operators to the hospital in late May. Witnesses said a pair of horses ran loose in Central Park, near East Drive. One horse made a U-turn and headed the wrong way into the park, hitting several pedicabs. A second driver ran to corral the horse, named Shadow, but then his horse, Hamilton, started following. Thankfully, there were no passengers in the back.
Another pedicab driver, who finally stopped the horses, was kicked, but not seriously hurt. The horses were reportedly unhurt, and were checked by a vet.
