Manhattan Borough President, Brad Hoylman-Signal, has urged New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the city’s Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) to remove political news outlet Newsmax from thousands of cabs in the city, “given the platform’s history of misinformation and disingenuous reporting.”
Hoylman-Signal said the city should sever its ties with Curb, a provider of advertising and television programming to taxi fleets across the country, unless the company terminates its agreement to distribute clips from Newsmax on seat-back screens. Curb is an authorized technology and advertising partner with the TLC, generating advertising revenue for cab operators and owners.
Curb began offering clips from Newsmax late last year, with videos streamed on screens in several cities across the country. The channel uses an advertising solution to distribute news clips emblazoned with a QR code that allows riders to download the Newsmax app.
