A passenger died after crawling out of the window of a moving for-hire vehicle (FHV) on Brooklyn’s Belt Parkway and hit his head on a guardrail, police said. As of mid-January it remained unclear why 43-year-old Rami Elsuwi was trying to exit the Hyundai Sante Fe, although sources suspect he wanted to kill himself.
The 69-year-old driver, who Elsuwi often hired to help run errands, was heading east on the Belt Parkway when Elsuwi climbed out of the right rear passenger window and hit his head on a guardrail near 92nd St. at about 9:00pm on January 8. He died at the scene.
According to police, Elsuwi was about a mile from his home, where he was facing eviction with a pregnant wife. He also reportedly suffered from panic attacks.
