On Nov. 23, Luis A. Galvez, 37, allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired a round directly into the passenger compartment of a cab, while the driver was still in the vehicle, at around 4:40am. Deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said the driver and passenger were arguing in the parking lot of the Towne Centre Plaza when the confrontation escalated. No injuries were reported, but Sheriff Brian Hess called the incident “extremely dangerous” and potentially deadly.
Investigators recovered a .45-caliber shell casing and obtained video surveillance from the plaza. They quickly identified the suspect, and deputies surrounded Galvez’s residence. A search warrant was obtained for Galvez’s home, vehicle, and person – including a gunshot residue collection. The warrant was executed without incident, and Galvez was taken into custody, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Inside the residence, investigators recovered a .45-caliber pistol consistent with the evidence found at the scene. Galvez later made statements admitting involvement in the shooting, according to authorities. Galvez is now charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $150,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond.
