According to Drivers Benefits – which works in conjunction with The Black Car Fund (BCF) and the Independent Drivers Guild (IDG) – many drivers qualify for free or low-cost healthcare without realizing it. Drivers Benefits and the IDG offer free 1-on-1 assistance to help drivers and their families efficiently apply for free to low-cost state health insurance. The service is provided for free by the IDG to drivers enrolled in Drivers Benefits. There is no obligation to enroll in a plan.

“Many immigrants fear that receiving government-funded healthcare will impact their immigration applications, whether they are applying for a green card or for citizenship,” Drivers Benefits noted. “However, in most cases, receiving certain benefits – like Medicaid or SNAP – may not impact your good standing in the US.”

To receive free assistance, call 800-218-1491, Mon. to Fri. from 8:00am – 8:00pm. Call takers speak English, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Bangla and many more languages to better assist drivers.
