A taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint on April 30, just before 4:00am at Newport and Osborn streets in Brownsville. According to officials, the 49-year-old taxi driver picked up an as-yet unidentified passenger and was driving in the vicinity of Newport Street and Osborn Street when he requested payment before reaching the final destination. The passenger refused, sparking a heated dispute.

Both men exited the car and the suspect brandished a knife, then jumped behind the wheel of the victim’s vehicle and fled. Additionally, the suspect made off with the driver’s wallet, which contained approximately $400 in cash and several credit cards, police said.

The driver fell to the ground and sustained minor injuries. EMS took him to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
