Taxi medallion trips rose 26.7% in July, when compared with the same period last year – even as 3,258 taxi medallions remained in storage. Traditional luxury, black car and livery bases saw a 51.7% spike year-over-year, as of June, representing 8.6% of all citywide FHV trips, according to AutoMarketplace.

Notably, 52.7% of all active taxi medallions are now attached to a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), satisfying the first part of a federal court mandate. While yellow cabs are showing strong growth and gaining trip share relative to other FHV sectors, the industry remains about 34% below pre-pandemic trips-per-taxi levels, with 1,155 fewer active taxis.
