On May 17, Nauman Hussain, who ran Prestige Limousine, was convicted of manslaughter, after a crash in one of his limos killed 20 people in rural New York in 2018. Prosecutors said Hussain intentionally failed to conduct required, routine state inspections on the 2001 Ford Excursion, and that the checks would have revealed brake defects and prevented the wreck. Jurors reached their verdict on the second day of trial deliberations.
Mavis Manager Said “Burn” the Limo, Before Deadly Crash
During the trial, Virgil Park, the former manager of Mavis Discount Tire in Saratoga Springs, testified that he told Hussain to “burn” the limo in the months leading up to the crash. A separate mechanic from the shop, Thomas Klingman, testified that Park pressured him to place a DMV inspection sticker on the SUV without completing the work. Mavis faces a number of civil lawsuits from the families of the victims for its alleged failure to properly service the vehicle.
