New Black Open Seat Belt Isolated on White Background.

A new safety law for limousines went into effect Jan. 1 across New York State. It was put in place as a result of a 2018 limo crash that killed 20 people in Schoharie.

The law requires all vehicles converted into stretch limousines to have at least two seat belts in the front seat and at least one seat belt in the rear for each passenger. It also requires all stretch limos to be retrofitted with seatbelts by Jan. 1, 2023. Signs encouraging passengers to use seatbelts must also be visible.
