PoliticsNY has published its “Power Players in Transportation” list for 2024, which spotlights industry leaders dedicated to improving efficiency, safety and accessibility across New York’s transportation systems. It includes public officials, nonprofit and union leaders, and private sector executives. Among those named were Black Car News columnists, Matthew W. Daus and Ira J. Goldstein.

Goldstein is the Executive Director of The Black Car Fund, a not-for-profit organization that provides full workers’ compensation benefits and a long list of additional health and wellness benefits to nearly 100,000 for-hire vehicle drivers in New York. He has received numerous honors during his career, including NYC’s Demonstrated Excellence in Project Management Award for his pivotal role in the conception and implementation of the TLC’s Taxicab Passenger Enhancement Project; an Above & Beyond Innovators Award from City & State New York; and a Hero For Tolerance award from the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

Daus is Partner/Chair of the Transportation Practice Group at Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf, LLP – a full-service law firm. He previously served as chair of the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC); TLC and Community Development Agency general counsel; Trade Waste Commission special counsel; and human rights prosecutor. He is currently president of the International Association of Transportation Regulators; transportation technology chair of City University of NY’s Transportation Research Center; and chair of the NYC Bar Association’s Transportation Law Committee.
