New York City plans to add 3,000 new pedestrian security barriers – twice the number proposed in January – on sidewalks and plazas to protect pedestrians from terrorists who might try to run them down, officials said in April. The $103 million in capital funding for the “bollards” was revealed alongside Mayor Bill de Blasio’s proposed $89.06 billion executive budget for fiscal 2019.
